Do you believe that Iris is a sympathetic character, or simply a pathetic one? Why? Is Iris your vision of what an ugly stepsister should be? Explain why or why not?

I belive that Iris is both a sympathetic character and a pathetic one at times. The reason why she can be sympathetic is that she is caring to Clara even though she can be a pain some times. Also she listens to her mean mother and does stuff she doesn't want to. Like taking care of her sister Ruth. The reason why she does it is she knows that her family could be kicked out into the street. So she isn't really selfish. Sometimes she can be pathetic because she tells Clara stories to get her to do stuff and tell her information.

Iris is not in my vision what an ugly stepsister should be. The reason is compared to the real Cinderalla story the ugly stepsister was very mean and cruel to the nice beautiful stepsister. In this story, Iris even though she isn't that pretty looking she stills acts kind to Clara who is supposed to be the Cinderalla figure in the story. Iris helps Clara in many ways. One is when she helps her learn English and be around other people and kids her age. She also gets her to get out of the house when she was only out once years ago. Iris also helps comfort her when her mother dies. Clara starts to trust and feel comfortable around Iris. So if she was a real ugly stepsister she would of tried to make Clara's life miserable. Iris also does alot of chores and errands when her mother marrgrath tells her. For example when she helps prepare meals for the certain gatherings they have. The other thing she does that she don't like much is watching her sister Ruth. That is why I feel that Iris doesn't really fit the ugly stepsister figure in this story.

What do you expect from a cinderalla story?

When I think of a Cinderalla story, I think of very mean sisters and a mean stepmother who lives with a very nice and beautiful sister. The mean and ugly sisters put the nice sister down and make her do all their work. So she can't do fun stuff, like go to balls. The mother treats the bad sister nicely and buys them nice dresses and treats Cinderalla badly. I expect magical things to happen like pumpkins turning into a carriage and mice to turn into horses. Also a beautiful dress that magically appears and will dissappear at 12:00 midnight. Don't forget the clear beautiful glass slippers. The prince will marry the girl who fit the lost glass slipper. The handsome prince that took the nice sister to the ball will end up marrying her. In the end they live happily ever after.
